One of the journalists whose articles I subscribe to always says "Follow the money." Whenever something happens and you want to figure out what it is all about or who is behind it, he says to trace it back to see who financially benefits and that will always show you the answer. Follow the money.

I seem to have the flaw of being drawn to (so-called) "conspiracy theories" like a moth to a flame. That's what comes from a news media that doesn't completely tell the truth, so there is always room for doubt and I want to know what is REALLY going on. That and a desire to be one step ahead of negative events. It's terrible to feel completely helpless, like being a sitting duck, which can happen simply because you are ignorant. You end up being completely squashed by a speeding train, because you didn't know you were sitting on the railroad tracks..

There's very little news that we can feel good about these days. There's always some conflict, some philosophy contending against another philosophy, so what is good or what is evil is always based on which side of the line you are standing on, and DON'T get caught in the crossfire.

Lately all these theories and contending philosophies have been piling up so high that it seems that now EVERYBODY is evil. And you know THAT can't be true, so certainly most, if not all of these theories have to be wrong.

But I finally figured something out last night. I came across an organization on the Internet that was SO full of conspiracy theories that they actually had a hundred of them. Rather than picking and choosing, they simply went for broke and covered ALL the bases. Well, I'd think that conspiracies are hard enough for ONE organization to keep quiet, you'd think at least one only half-committed member would finally spill the beans. But a HUNDRED of them, all working independently to completely destroy America and take over the world?

Still this group did do a pretty good job of connecting all the dots (despite the mammothness of the task) and justifying all their arguments, so in a way, they were managing to get me going there and the picture they were presenting was a pretty frightening one indeed. Figuratively, it was about like making the world into one big giant garbage disposal and we were all baby rats being held by the tail over the mouth of it, ready to be dropped in at any second.

But then they went one step too far. They provided a link to an article by one of their members who would ultimately explain it all--"PLEASE click on this link and read what this man has to say, you will never be the same," they begged. Oh boy, it was as if they were putting us on the brink of finding the Holy Grail.

What was it a link to? A on-line book called The Pink Swastika. And what, pray tell, is The Pink Swastika all about? I have to put this in quotes, because I don't want anyone to read this too quickly and make the mistake of thinking that I am indicating that there is anything factual in any of this: "It is about the conspiracy of German homosexuals who founded the Nazi party and have been working ever since to completely subjugate the entire Western world." You did know that Hitler was a homosexual, didn't you? I wonder what Eva Braun would have had to say about that? (She slept with him.) And let's not forget the homosexuals that Hitler had purged in his own party central. But never mind. It ought to be clear that now we are dealing with utter bullshit.

And that's when I realized, "Follow the hate". It never fails. People kinda start to sound good, you know, their theory does seem to hold water, maybe what they are talking about make sense, but then you keep digging, and sure enough, you will come across that nugget of hate that resides like a nucleus right in the middle of it. It never fails...no matter how reasonable or crack-pot the theory is, when you find hate in the middle of it, you have proof right there that the thing is false. No "Elders of Zion" protocols, no "Pink Nazis" homosexualizing the world, no "Bush crime family," no "Illuminati/Masonic/mumbo-jumbo" chanting death and destruction inside windowless chambers--God, they may as blame everything on New Orleans voodoo queens or Mexican brujas or, yeah, The Devil. I read enough of that, too. The Devil operates to destroy the world through Harry Potter books.

There's evil, sure, and I don't have enough understanding to say where it comes from or why it is there--that's far beyond the ken of my limited brain. "The Devil" is as good enough of a way to picture it as anything, I guess. But it's just a PICTURE of some kind of indescribable force. I don't think the Devil holds board meetings with Illuminati. The "Devil" works inside each individual, not externally in a mass movement. If you want to think of Hitler as a good example of an embodiment of "the Devil", it might help to realize that Hitler didn't ever actually kill anybody except himself. Sure, he promulgated the ideas and the theories and philosophies. He spoke loudly and visciously. He inspired actions. But it was still nobody but individuals acting upon their own solitary volition that actually pulled the trigger, rounded up people, and carted them off in boxcars. Any one of them could have NOT done it. Sure, they might have had an immense price to pay for NOT doing it...they might have even lost THEIR lives. But the fact remains that despite the immensity of the choice, it was still a choice. So conspiracy? How does that work? It just doesn't work. It is all individuals. But hate, that doesn't deal with individuals, hate deals with groups. It's never Aaron or Noah or Ruth...it's "Jews". It's never Adam or Steve or Bruce, it's "Homosexuals". It's never George or Bill or George, it's "The Skull & Crossbones". Hate. Follow the hate and you will see.

So what can we do about it? Clear the hate out of our own hearts. Sometimes it's not easy to root out, or to even find, but find it you must. Root it out like a pig searching for a truffle, except hate isn't a beautiful nugget of sensual delight, hate is a poison and you WANT it gone like you'd want a rotten tooth extracted.

I love the new music I have playing and I hope you do, too--having this music feature is one of my favorite features of MySpace. And I really do love the Pet Shop Boys, always have, and they just keep comin' out with such amazingly beautiful tunes!

And this idea is so right--let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. "Let's stay together." But we can't stay together when we hate--hate makes it impossible and the problems remain unsolvable.
